Review of The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) by Kirstyn C — 06 Oct 2017
I didn't expect anything short of lunacy from the director who brought us The Lobster. This film forces its characters to deal with a disturbing choice that only true narcissists or sociopaths would dare to face head on with the sort of indifference these characters project.
When the children of a wealthy and gifted surgeon, with a startlingly dark past, fall ill with a mysterious illness, it comes to light immediately that there are more nefarious things at play. This film offers you, the viewer, with a close view of the chaos while also keeping you somehow cooly detached as you watch what would be any typical parent's nightmare unfold.
This film is disturbing, terrifying, and utterly maddening. It claws its way into the very core of human choice: would I sacrifice for someone I love, or do I love myself so much more?
