Review of The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) by Nadjib R — 27 Feb 2018
The best way to describe Yorgos Lanthimos's style is filmmaking on crack, honestly, that's the only way to explain how his mind works.
After The Lobster, here he is again with another masterpiece so skillfully constructed and crafted, although his work might not be for everyone, Lanthimos, through his enigmatic and symbolic sequencing he creates an alternative way to envision emotions especially pain and sadness,.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer will undoubtedly leave you breathless, its disturbing nature is both repulsive and inviting, what Lanthimos does through his shots is create an uncomfortable vibe that's strangely soothing and calming, in other words, he removes logic from the equation, what's left is a crude showcase of repressed feelings and sentiments, The characters are carefully detailed from Steven to Martin and Anna & the kids, the performances are solid across the board and adds so much to the story.
In a few words, Yorgos Lanthimos is his second major film imposes his talent and his bizarre style on us and I can't be happier about it because The Killing of a Sacred Deer is hauntingly beautiful and I can't wait for his next project.
