Review of The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) by Jake R — 10 May 2018
Director Yorgos Lanthimos presents another staggeringly artistic & unnervingly heavy dark film with "THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER." Like his other work, Lanthimos' style is surgically precise, with his characters interacting as they would on a theatre stage.
Colin Farrell's performance is masterful, as is Nicole Kidman's, and the entire cast feeds off Lanthamos' delicate direction with excruciating (but in its form, perfect) chemistry. This is a film that requires attention and patience, and the material is incredibly dark and woeful.
As an art-house film, this one succeeds brilliantly as a unique entry in the A24 catalogue, although one viewing was enough for me.
