Review of The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) by Kerrick R — 12 Nov 2017
Spoiler free: A group of six of us watched it, three of us were Indy movie fans. None of us liked it.
It has an interesting premise, but it doesn't even get there for almost an hour. I went into it without watching the trailer or knowing anything about it, and couldn't tell where it was going until a good chunk into the movie. A main character's goal for the longest is just to hang out with another one, which is lame enough but there are zero consequences if they don't.
Plus a major thing happens with zero explanation, not even a throw away line.
It was shot well, but written and directed poorly.
Don't wait for rental, just avoid it or watch it on 1.5 speed to make up for all of the awkward pausing.
