Review of The Killing (1956) by Marissa K — 15 Oct 2013
I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but as a genre, heist films are usually a good bet for me. This one certainly didn't disappoint. It's odd watching it now, being more of a generation used to watching the films that this one certainly influenced as opposed to being there at the beginning, but I don't think that it's lost anything on its journey through the decades.
There's nothing, that screamed "Kubrick" to me, but maybe that's part of Kubrick's talent, but it is a solidly put together film. There's not a shot out of place, not that there could afford to be with a running time under 90 minutes, but while it all seems to go by in a bit of a blur, I can guarantee you that, even on first watch, there's something, if not several things, about this one that will stick with you.
