Review of The Killing (1956) by Vinnie J — 21 Apr 2009
In a movie that seems to have so many typical cliche movie clips, one has to keep in mind the era in which it was filmed. Was this film where Terminator 2 got thei idea of a shotgun in a flower box? How about the idea of the same circumstance seen through the eyes of different characters? Filmed in 1956, The Killing has many elements that movie goers today may recognize. What they may not realize is that this movie might have been one of the first to come up with these now classic ideas.
The plot was okay. The acting was above average. But Kubrick directs only as Kubrick can direct. He pulls together some great clips into a great blend of well respected directing. The Killing is a movie that I probably won't watch again, but I am glad I did in the first place. It's nice to break away from trendy movies to ones that demand a deeper appreciation. One of Kubrick's first movies, its easy to see genious in this early work.
