Review of The Killing (1956) by G. Brandon H — 13 Sep 2010
Kubrick is really a genius. I mean, in this film he re-invented, as he always did for each genre in each of his films, the "film noir" and heist film. He introduced the de-constructed chronological narrative, used Hitchock's technique of the voice-over giving information to the spectator to create suspense instead of surprise, and he instilled a very modern feel of pacing in the film with his directing.
I was truly baffled by it: so modern for a 1956 film!
