Review of The Killing (1956) by Kevin C — 16 Oct 2010

A fine caper film from a nascent Kubrick with an ingenious nonlinear narrative structure and some nice acting. Kubrick shows off his skills in directing with some very clever setups and his trademark long tracking shots.

It's obvious to see how this movie influenced current crime directors. Kubrick did what he could with the narrator, but it detracts from the dark feeling of the film. Still, it's an admirable noir effort long after the genre had had its heyday.
