Review of The Killing (1956) by Ravi K — 26 Jan 2013
"I've often thought that the gangster and the artist are the same in the eyes of the masses. They are admired and hero-worshipped, but there is always present underlying wish to see them destroyed at the peak of their glory.
" Holy noir, Batman! Kubrick is spot-on, as usual. Very exciting, it's easy to see how it influenced hundreds of heist films that followed. It also has that wonderful tongue-in-cheek dialogue that only noir can deliver.
Plus, I have found another "new" actor to watch for, Sterling Hayden. Dude's got chops, can't wait to see his other stuff. So yea, this was loads of fun. And it has great pacing, since its only 84 minutes! And there's some neat tracking shots for all those cinephiles out there.
