Review of The Killing (1956) by Liam B — 31 Mar 2013
After a shaky and slow initial 20 minutes. The Killing would go on to be a great crime classic. Lead by an iconic, Sterling Hayden, who's alliance with Kubrick would ultimately go toward his best and my favorite of Kubrick's work, Dr Strangelove. Everyone involved is extremely talented and committed in their roles which lead up to it's spectacular conclusion that just brought a smile to my face because of how neatly it was all wrapped up. The use a non-linear storyline, while somewhat distracting at times, was executed with class and was a phenomenal one of his first efforts.
Needless to say, the film looked amazing, had a collection of highly respectable actors who all played their parts well with the exception of one because his accent is too thick to understand what he is saying, while you can make out the gist of it, it's still incoherent. Not a film breaker, though that's needless to say, a highly intellectual, fast and engaging crime thriller.
