Review of The Killing (1956) by Quentin T — 29 Nov 2009
An absolutely stellar heist film that plays with narrative and timeline in ways that weren't attempted again until 'memento' and 'pulp fiction,' - which may owe more to this film than any other.
the slow unraveling of the plot is ingenious - building up to one of the most satisfying, poetically just endings to ever come out of the predictability of the hays code era. not just for kubrick completionists.
between his cameo in this, and his performance in kubrick's 'paths of glory,' timothy carey is now one of my favorite actors of the period.
