Review of The Killing (1956) by Jeffrey D — 08 May 2012
Stanley Kubrick's Film Noir Heist Film is solid entertainment. It isn't like his later works, that can feel stiff, emotionless, and have tons of overly philosophical interpretations jammed into the script.
..instead this is just a decent script about a big heist on a racetrack. Well shot, with a solid cast, and plenty of entertainment value. I'm not saying I have something against Kubrick's later stuff, but pretty everything from 2001 on is pretty cold.
The narration is about as stiff as the early short documentaries Kubrick had produced prior to his work in features. But it is mostly well made entertainment.
