Review of The Killing (1956) by Kevin J — 13 Feb 2010
Kubrick's first feature length film doesn't disappoint. It's my personal favorite film and I just can't get enough of it. Sterling Hayden gives an all star performance as Johnny Clay as he watches his heist fall apart at every possible point.
Watching it today, it feels almost like a deconstruction of heists we are used to seeing (such as the remake of Oceans 11) where the plan goes of almost entirely without a hitch except for the last big one, which is easily solved.
The cinematography is amazing and it's Stanley Kubrick partnering up with Sterling Hayden, there's just no way to go wrong.
