Review of The Killers (1946) by Seth D — 26 Jul 2008
If anyone is making a short list of 'film noir' they'd be foolish to not include this one. Fatalistic storyline shot in black and white and very few shades of grey. Burt Lancaster is terrific as a man whose decision to accept his fate propels Edmond O'Brien's character to uncover the truth behind his death.
Suspenseful twisting plot, beautiful cinematography and a very creative adaptation of the original Hemingway short story. The extras on the Criterion edition (which gets paired with the less satisfying but enjoyable 1964 version of the film) is a film class in a box and is highly recommended.
