Review of The Killers (1946) by Joel K — 03 Oct 2009
Film noir. NC's own Ava in a small in screen time yet iconic nonetheless femme fatale role as Kitty Collins. Lancaster is solid. Edmond O'Brien is awesome in the few films i've seen him in as a sort of suave everyman with a dash of bogart and a pinch of seedy at times, though not so much here.
Some great lines and camera shots. the film has heist, jail, boxing, shooting, though there is a good deal of action the plot has a pretty gradual arc as it sort of starts at the end and goes towards the begining.
Kitty has a darker Eve in the garden quality to her. Mostly a detective type plot a la Citizen Kane led by O'Brien as the sleuthing insurance investigator in a role much more prominent than the newspaper man in Kane.
