I don't understand this movie at all. Is this supposed to be a portrait of a sadist/sociopath? What is the purpose of this film? Please somebody tell me.
The style is all weird, it almost plays like a sick comedy. The music is perplexedly humorous. In the middle of all this there are two extremely harrowing and gruesome scenes that I won't soon forget, unfortunately. The mishmash is just strange and I didn't like it.
Casey Affleck is a good actor, but his character here makes no sense to me. Is he just insane? I hate it when I don't understand a character's motives at all. Why is he what he is!? Is this analysis the whole point of the movie? And why is there like ten unnecessary and uncomfortable sex scenes. The first one was enough to establish a behavioral pattern.
The worst thing is the flick is fucking boring. So that makes it boring and incomprehensible. Which means critics will praise the shit out of it. Oooh, artsy! Too much weird crap going on for me, and the time period sucks as well. Color me disappointed.
