Review of The Killer Inside Me (2010) by Eric L — 12 Oct 2010
Cast: Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Ned Beatty, Elias Koteas, Tom Bower, Simon Baker, Bill Pullman, Brent Briscoe, Matthew Maher, Liam Aiken.
Director: Michael Winterbottom.
Summary: West Texas Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford (Casey Affleck) is harboring a deep dark secret -- while the small town's residents think him a bit dim, Lou is actually affected by a "sickness" that turns the mild-mannered peace officer into a brutal, psychotic killer. Set in the 1950s, Michael Winterbottom's adaptation of Jim Thompson's classic noir novel co-stars Kate Hudson as Lou's innocent girlfriend and Jessica Alba as Joyce, a local prostitute.
My Thoughts: "I knew their would be violence in the film, but wow. The violence in this was pretty intense, and in no way did the director shy away from how uncomfortable it would make it's audience. I liked that even if it was hard to watch. It made the story feel that much more real for me. The thing that is more twisted for this killer that Casey Affleck portrays is that he has no real motive. Which makes him not your ordinary psychotic killer. There is no real understanding to why he kills. What's more disturbing, is that as the audience, you can't help to loathe him and yet like him at the same time. Your sicken with what he has done, but yet you don't want him to be caught. Well that's how it played out for me. The casting of Casey Affleck to play Lou Ford was a perfect match. He was amazing and played his part as twisted as the character is written. The two women, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba, were great in their roles as well. Great supporting cast and great acting from all. It's definitely worth seeing if you can stomach it. But I must warn you, the violence is disturbing and brutal, so do think twice before watching a film like this if you're sensitive to violence towards woman, or violence at all.".
