If it didn't invade their privacy to show their sex lives (which added nothing) it would be much better. I don't know why Hollywood thinks they are open minded just by showing gay people having sex more graphically than raunchy teen movies show straight people.
It's just weird, and it forces the intimacy of an alternative lifestyle on audiences, making them uncomfortable with gay people in general. If I had to watch every straight couple have sex, I would probably even feel uncomfortable about that.
The explicit scenes detract from the movie in any case, and the result is that many people will not see movies that could serve as vehicles to change public perception of gay people and their relationships.
There is no reason anybody needed to see Julianne Moore going down on Annette Benning while they use a vibrator and watch gay porn. Whose idea was that?
