Review of The Kids Are All Right (2010) by Michael D — 08 Aug 2011
"We have Two Mommies but one of them has the hots for Mark Ruffalo from Kenosha, OMG can we forgive her for her fling?" That was from the perspective of the "kids." OK, notwithstanding the song title and live film by the Who which has a different theme -- or does it? I kind of liked this movie.
The "Mommy Mommy" Julianne Moore is being neglected by the "Daddy Mommy" Annette Benning. Annette does this a cappella rendition of Joni Mitchell that had me searching for the remote and then a waste basket basket.
.. She was so super hot in "Bugsy" but time the avenger has crept in and all I can say is that it creeped me out. This movie was ultra dull and unexceptional in every way possible, perhaps on purpose.
Perhaps also we are left to debate whether Mark's character and Julianne's character were worthy of forgiveness by Benning's character... I'm not really sure about all of that. I'm also not sure why the finale of the movie places so much importance on the older child going off to college.
Maybe this movie got too much attention about it's thematic choices and everyone forgot about how terribly dull this movie really is. Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo are so cute together and charming.
... this just bowled over people because it's true. Next time, give these two a really great script hehehe and see what they can do together. A really nice and super tame movie that makes you kind of wonder where John Waters is hiding out.
