Review of The Kid with a Bike (2011) by Lawrence G — 17 Jan 2013
Despite, or perhaps because of its brevity, this film dispenses with typical cloying melodrama. "The Kid with a Bike" bursts with the reckless energy of its protagonist, Cyril (Doret), who is rarely ever still.
After being abandoned by his own father, Cyril is cared for by Samantha (de France) who he literally runs into as he visits his father's empty apartment. The film is often unpredictable, sometimes tragic, but always moving, in both senses of the word.
There are no wasted moments in this film, which, in the end, demonstrates the power of an unwarranted act of compassion.
