Review of The Karate Kid Part III (1989) by James C — 28 Mar 2008
An average adventure for Daniel and Miyagi and probably the weakest of the series (though I can't comment on The Next Karate Kid coz I haven't seen it). The threat to Daniel and Miyagi's relationship is an effective thread of what is mainly a tired prequel to a classic made just five years before this.
Less about fighting than about Bonsai trees. Thomas Ian Griffith makes a decent enoguh adversary and it's good to see Martin Kove return as John Kreese. There is not a great amount of originality here though and Macchio, who is clearly only meant to be in his late teens in this film is nearly 30 offscreen! Realistic much.
