Review of The Karate Kid Part II (1986) by Maria C — 16 Jan 2009
There are a few things that a good sequel does: It ups the stakes ( and the drama ) and it gives you more of what you loved from its predecessor while still trying something new. The Karate Kid II definitely meets these requirements and manages to be one of the most highly enjoyable sequels in my memory.
For its very few moments of sheer absurdity ( another often-seen sequel problem ), I can't give the film a higher rating than The Karate Kid. One the same token, for achieving the levels of sheer popcorn entertainment that it does, I can't find it in myself to give The Karate Kid II a lower rating than The Karate Kid either.
Re-watch and enjoy. Another enthusiastic 4 stars.
