Review of The Karate Kid Part II (1986) by Blæke W — 15 Aug 2009

I don't know how i'd never seen this before. I must've seen parts 1 & 3 hundreds of times when I was a nipper. I think i've even seen the hilary swank one more recently a couple of times. somehow this follow up that builds on the relationship between teacher and student has escaped me. I loved the fact there wasn't some big competition at the end. it was still nice to see an almost to the death fight though. I know everyone else has given this a lower rating than me but i'm just a sucker for the karate kid series. I loved the story of how karate came to the miyagi family, how an ancient ancestor loved fishing too like all miyagis but also loved sake and mixed the two together and woke up on coast of china, learned karate and returned to okinawa, japan 10 years later. ah ha...i'll leave you with this quote:

Daniel: Hey Mr. Miyagi, you know I've been thinking.

Mr. Miyagi: About what, Daniel-San?

Daniel: That we should come up with some kind of strategy.

Mr. Miyagi: For what?

Daniel: My future, my whole tournament career.

Mr. Miyagi: Miyagi already have one.

Daniel: Really? What is it?

Mr. Miyagi: Early retirement.
