Review of The Karate Kid Part II (1986) by Magill F — 16 Feb 2010
A worthy sequel to "The Karate Kid" that maintains a similar formula, but changes the setting to Okinawa, which gives the film a fresh feel even if the plot is pretty close to the plot of part 1.
This instalment is more about Mr. Miyagi than it is about Daniel, which makes the ending a bit disappointing, as we don't actually get to see the promised Sato vs. Miyagi fight that the film was building up to.
Still, the story moves quickly enough that it's never boring, and in fact, I felt that the pacing of this movie was a bit better than the pacing of its predecessor. Since it picks up immediately where "The Karate Kid" ends, watching the two films back to back provides the viewer with a rewarding experience.
When watched together, both "The Karate Kid" and "The Karate Kid 2" feel like two halves of one continuous story - a feat which is rare when it comes to sequels.
