Review of The Karate Kid Part II (1986) by Brandon W — 28 Mar 2015
The Karate Kid part II is surprisingly not a retread of the first film and tries to be its own movie which is what other movie sequels should of these days. The chemistry between Daniel and Miyagi is expanded which I'm more happy to see that, and it's still as great as the first movie, in fact, it's better.
The setting in Okinawa is really cool looking and never felt like it takes place in the same city. The absence with Ali felt like a poor excuse and it felt rushed. So with the chemistry between Kimiko and Daniel felt a bit of the same, but with the Japanese culture, it's different than the first movie, and it's still great.
The Kato character is so over the top that I'm laughing a lot and enjoying him. The plot is not as good as the first movie and was all over the place. There's barely any training scenes which I was a bit disappointed, but it's still interesting to see what they do.
The Karate Kid Part II has more problems, but it never seem like an unnecessary sequel and it's a good sequel too.
