Review of The Karate Kid (2010) by Ella B — 30 Dec 2011
The only surprise here is that this remake isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but the movie lacks charm and originality, the most innovative thing they could do was taking the kid to China and teaching him.
.. KUNG FU!, but keeping the lucrative name that made the 1980's franchise highly profitable. The fraud starts from here, and ends with the championship that is a 95% copy from the original: the same dialogues, the same evil teacher of the rival school, the bullying, the young girlfriend, everything.
Jackie Chan was far from equaling Pat Morita's legendary work and Jaden Smith seeems unlikely to reach the same fame his father has achieved. I don't recommend it, watch the 1984's version.
