Review of The Karate Kid (2010) by Caton B — 26 Apr 2012
A surprisingly good movie for what it is. A remake. Actually, to a certain degree, it isn't as much of a remake, or even a reboot, really. Although there are some scenes which mimic those from the original, this film does not fall within the continuity of the original four (Yes, there are four.
The 4th starring Hilary Swank, but thats a different story). Even the characters are different. True, Dre and Mr. Han are obviously the Daniel and Mr. Miyagi, although with different names. Aside from "The Persuit of Happyness" this is the first starring role for Jaden Smith, and, knowing his father, he has some big shoes to fill.
Jackie Chan, truthfully, is somewhat typecast, but that doesn't mean he doesn't kick some ass. A great film, although its impossible whether to determine you'll love it if you love the originals, and vice versa.
