Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Digital B — 08 Jun 2010
This movie is a classic and based on Ralph Macchio's comments no one really knew thirty years ago that they were making some thing so special.
This story, although not totally original, was new and refreshing for the time period. Karate was very popular during the 70's and 80's in America so it fit perfectly in to the story line.
Pat Morita is a perfect fit for this movie as he is a quiet and inconspicuous person. His character is a "speak right, think right, act right" Japanese gardener with a thing for bonsai's. His character is perfect for helping control all the frustration and chaos in Daniel's life.
The main bully, his partners in crime and the Sensai of their dojo is perfect for this time period too. The 80's was a time filled with this materialism and self centered point of view. The actors played their characters to perfection, even through the cheesy one liners you'd only expect from a ignorant bully.
Over all this movie rocks and is a timeless classic. I definite yes to any collection. Personally I have it in my favorite top 20 list of all time.
