Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Jakob K — 10 Jun 2010
In the spirit of the TKK remake, which debuts today, a classic review is in order: For all of its cheese, THE KARATE KID really is a modern phenomenon. I love it; you love it; we all love it -- even despite so many flaws.
Why? Maybe it's Mr. Miyagi (who I believe to be God incarnate in this film) -- or perhaps because everyone loves a "Balboa" underdog story...Who knows! Who cares! We just like it. So, the verdict? +3 stars for a good story, Pat Morita, and that abstract ingredient called CHARM.
Deduct 2 for a few cheesy moment and minor fails in acting. All-in-all THE KARATE KID is a WIN!
