Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Natalie M — 08 Sep 2009
Dated, but sweet. A coming-of-age story about a teenager that gets uprooted from his New England home when his single mother gets a job in California. He becomes a punching bag for some guys at his school, but learns how to defend himself when the fix-it guy at his apartment complex agrees to teach him karate.
Mr. Miagi is a fantastic character, and Pat Morita plays it very well. This film had some really memorable moments. It got a little long at the 3/4 mark.
