Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Jack W — 21 Sep 2009
One of the great movies from the eighties. The cinematography for the film is actually really good with some shots that are just beautiful. The soundtrack is very dated with two classic 80's songs.
I could sing "You're the Best" all day. All the roles are cast perfectly and of course Shue looks great as always. It was interesting to note how the film was overtly racist throughout (Miyagi's clipped speech and dialogue) yet still the film makes reference to the internment camps during WWII.
And the final scene still works to the fullest as Daniel-san kicks Jonny to win the tournament. Great eighties film.
