Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Jon L — 22 May 2010
Ah, "The Karate Kid." One of the quintessential '80s movies, and a shining example of both a coming-of-age story and a "Rocky"-style underdog movie - which isn't that much of a stretch considering that both this and "Rocky" have the same director.
Macchio had been in a few movies before ("The Outsiders"), but really grows up here and comes through as a troubled youth finding discipline, and Morita's Miyagi is one of the most memorable characters in film history.
Of course, you know all the quotes and songs that make this movie awesome party viewing. Nonetheless, one of my favorite movies. You're the best...AROUND!
