Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Jeffrey P — 26 Jun 2010
One of the canonical mentor films. Certainly formulaic, but director Avildson (admirably) takes his time and lets the characters get to know one another. The cast is fine - especially Macchio and Shue, who make a really appealing couple, and Morita brings considerable warmth and charisma to his role.
Kove chews some scenery as the teacher of the opposition.
