The characters do develop well, albeit, as much as they can in an massively popular 80's movie. The title isn't special, but there are plenty of good songs here. The action, though it doesn't happen often, is epic and quite satisfying.

But the thing that drags this vastly popular movie far down is the plot. It's not asinine, but it's way too long for what it is. It should have been shorter, and with more fighting. My biggest criticism, however, is how the plot sends the wrong message to kids, that you can solve your problems by yelling "HIYAAAAAA!!" at someone and punching them, which would actually make your problems worse.
