Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by John E — 08 Jan 2013
I can't say enough good things about this film. I've been doing Karate since I was 9 and remember seeing this film sometime shortly after... at the age of 14 or so I found the Trilogy on Video in a used goods shop in Cork and watched it all in one night.
The score is excellent, Morita well deserves his oscar nomination... this coming of age story about an angry young man who turns to Karate when being bullied teaches us so many great life lessons. Buried deep in my subconscious is the need to fall in love with a blonde american girl after Elizabeth Shue's enchanting performance... Top 5 for me! Brilliant film.
