Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Dragonsfoe . — 17 Aug 2016
A Bare Necessity.
The Jungle Books is a Fantastic example of how cgi can elevate and enhance storytelling. The direction is great, the cast is amazing and ends up being miles better than the original.
The film follows a boy struggling with his place in the jungle. The film successfully conveys themes of identity and of family. Jon Favreau again proves that he is a great director. The fact that the movie is all cg elevates that fact. The cast is also something to behold, something diverse and surprising.
The film's overall narrative is simple, but since the original is such a classic, everyone knows the outcome. They could have made more liberties with the source material without going to far.
Overall this film is unlike anything else, visually. It is the definitive jungle book movie.
Rating: 8.3 (A-).
