Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Tom H — 13 Sep 2016
Really enjoyed this film. Tremendous achievement in animation, as well as in terms of sheer spectacle. The emotions hit home very strongly, with not only the wolf pack but Mowgli seeming deeply, well -- ahem -- human.
Very touching and sincere and well-handled. I even liked the Bear Necessities song. The only thing I disliked about this movie was Christopher Walken's King Louie. He was just way, way too recognizable.
He took me out of the film not only with his recognizable voice, but his stupid and unnecessary song number. Also, was it really necessary to have Mowgli play with a cowbell right before Christopher Walken starts talking??? Again: Pulls you out of the movie.
