Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by P B — 23 Sep 2016
I always liked Disney's "The Jungle Book" as a kid, and this modern live-action adaptation is a fairly solid remake of that version of the story. It is a pretty exciting visual experience, but I do think it lacks some of the simple charm of the animated version from the 60s.
The best bits come from Bill Murray as Baloo, but the kid playing Mowgli is a pretty good lead. I like seeing a kid's movie that isn't afraid to go dark in the right amount of doses in this day and age.
..when things can either be too dark and gritty for kids or too bubbly and light...I think this found a decent balance.
