Review of The Jungle Book (1994) by Fukutopia — 15 Apr 2016
I'm a fan of all of the live-action adaptations Disney has been releasing of their animated classics, but Jon Favreau has left us with something much, much more in The Jungle Book. It's quite literally a perfect film in every way—production, cinematography, acting, effects, writing…you name it.
This may be the best Disney movie I've ever seen, and it's definitely one of the best films I've seen. You know the story, so I won't bore you there. This is an excellent adaptation by Justin Marks, making a serious film with talking, singing animals that doesn't come off as ridiculous.
It just feels natural, like something you see in your everyday life. It's a story full of action, adventure, suspense, humor, and most importantly—heart. It's a story about man's place in the world, but also about how much our learned behavior can triumph our nature.
It's a story about family, and how there are ties that bind much stronger than blood. Do yourself a favor & see this film. See it on a massive screen if you can. I look forward to seeing Jon Favreau on stage at The Academy Awards next year.
