Review of The Jungle Book (1994) by Danburrito — 13 May 2016
It may not be as good as the classic original, but The Jungle Book has more than enough charm and emotional depth to stand on its own terms. The only real major flaw is the singing, which sounded pretty lame compared to the singing in the original.
Other than that, I enjoyed it very much. The voice cast fitted their roles perfectly, and Neel Sethi carried himself admireably, considering he was acting against green-screen the whole time. The film does manage to improve on the original in terms of narrative coherence, and adds an extra dimension to the character of Mowgli.
Some scenes might be a bit frightening for very small kids, but there's still plenty for them to enjoy. Overall, The Jungle Book is a visually stunning and narratively engrossing remake that does justice to its classic predecessor.
