Review of The Judge (2014) by Luke M — 27 Apr 2015
The Judge is an insultingly, blatantly expository screenplay, wrapped around every drama cliché imaginable. The acting is average - Downey Jr. for the most part plays a less interesting Tony Stark, Duvall does nothing particularly special, Farmiga and Thornton feel like they are merely filling space.
The true and only standout is Vincent D'Onofrio, who gives an Oscar-worthy performance. The court scenes have no life compared to far superior films. The film is far too long, with at least half an hour of superfluous content.
As a film it is poor, but as a law drama it is insulting.
