Review of The Judge (2014) by Brandon C — 11 Aug 2015

The Judge is a courtroom family drama starring Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall,Vincent D'Onofrio, and some other people in extracurricular roles about how a man and his son can redeem themselves in the face of tragedy Robert Downey's character is a big shot defense attorney who returns home in the midst of an impending divorce for the funeral of his now deceased mother. He hasn't seen his father or even his family in about 20 years give or take and everyone is surprised when he shows up on their doorstep and it goes without saying his father, who is a by the book hard as nails old school judge that is known throughout the town was expecting him to show up the least. The movie starts off simply and easily enough as a man trying to find his memories in a small town world where he began before going to the big modern city for years but the night after the burial of his mother Robert Downey finds that his father's old car, that only his father drives mind you has a dent in the light and this leads to a criminal investigation from here on in gives the movie its kick into overdrive and from here the movie actually takes a big step forward upward and onward it exceeded my expectations when it talks about a man who in the later golden years of his life has nothing to look back on except for the legacy he created for himself in his job as a town hero whether it be socially politically financially or institutionally it also shows when at everyone wits end the only ones you can truly rely on are your family even if you do not agree with their personal choices or things that they have done with their life over the years and when the truth comes out, even though it may not save you in the eyes of all who knew you of being some omnipotent being or something like that. it could create you into some damn liar who may lose their soul in regards to the kind of person people thought you were I absolutely love this movie I believe anyone who has a family especially parents or grandparents should watch this to see how a husband and a father as well as a social figure of respect who has anyone on their mind and how they look to him to do everything that is right and how one little accident or was not can completely destroy that legacy. But in the end what's more important, the legacy that you set for yourself on this earth or the same legacy that you've set in the eyes of your family past,present ,and future. Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr, you two are fantastic actors to be a little sentimental it will be a sad day when one or both of you guys are no longer among us in the eyes of cinematic history.
