Review of The Joy Luck Club (1993) by Simeon M — 15 Mar 2009
I watched this for a class and thoroughly enjoyed it.
4 Chinese mothers tell their stories, and pass on their knowledge to their grown daughters. The cultural China to America aspect gives quite a bit of soul to the film. It was almost a tearjerker for me.
Not too bad in content, but a couple scenes in the second half barely knock it up to an R rating. A rather negative few of marriage, as so many couples end up divorced. I realize that this is a cultural reality... but it was just difficult to see on the dawn of marriage myself.
