Review of The Joy Luck Club (1993) by Alice S — 18 Apr 2010
The Joy Luck Club is about four elderly Chinese immigrant moms and the hardships that they had to endure, so that their daughters would have good lives. They wanted their daughters to be so Americanized, that they would swallow more Coca - Cola than sorrow.
They did such a good job raising them as Americans, that there were times that the daughters did not understand their mothers or their mother's actions. That led to much conflict between the generations.
The daughters never really knew about their moms and how much they struggled and suffered. I recommend it, because it will make you appreciate your own mom more than you already do and perhaps become curious about her life when she was younger.
