Review of The Joneses (2010) by Chris H — 15 Sep 2010
How would you like to be someone else for a change? To have the latest gadgets and the best home and cars? To have the "perfect family"..well get ready to enjoy a great satire on consumerism with an surprising ending.
The "Joneses" may be your typical family and all across America millions of folks are constantly trying to keep up with the Joneses as the saying goes but some people go too far with tragic consequenes and this film exposes the sad truth about going overboard trying to impress others and about who we really are.
Demi Moore looks terrific as Kate Jones and plays the role perfectly. Same goes for Duchovny. The film starts out pert and amusing, like a dark sitcom. Moore and Duchovny are all health and wealth as they move into an upscale neighbourhood with their two teenage kids.
Itâ??s quickly clear none of the Joneses are actually related. Theyâ??re paid agents in a stealth marketing scheme, their mission is to turn heads, show off clothes, cars, gadgets to the admiring golf and pedicure set.
Duchovnyâ??s Steve is the rookie in the operation - he needs to boost his sales. Mooreâ??s Kate, who wonâ??t even let him sleep in the same bed, might reconsider if those numbers go up. As the story unfolds their "kids" get into trouble and other things take place that prompt Steve Jones to ask himself if the charade needs to stop.
You will see some surprises along the way and great gadgets. I highly recommend this movie especially to those that think appearances are everything because the truth of the matter is that they are NOT! Its better to be who you really are and stop keeping up with the Joneses pretending to be someone you are not.
In the end it will catch up with you...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and added to my private collection!
