Review of The Joneses (2010) by Ana B — 18 Nov 2010
An apparently perfect family moves into a rich neighbourhood, they have all the latest gadgets, designer clothes and cars. But they are not a family, they a unity of four sellers in disguise, set out to commercialize goods to their friends and neighbours. They are employed by an unknown company and they are very succesful.
I think the idea of this movie is clever, a team of four skilled individuals unknowingly manipulating their entourage into buying products "to keep up with the Joneses". It is clever, and it is scary. Is this really happening in real life or is it just another movie? just fiction?
It is a shame that towards the end the film looses edge and becomes more conventional. It is also a pity the lack of chemistry between Moore and Duchovny. But in general this is a smart movie that makes you think about your shopping and your choices or your lack of them.
