Review of The Joneses (2010) by Noel M — 12 Dec 2010
This movie's overall plot really struck a chord with me but the ending was written so poorly that I could not bring myself to giving it more than 3 stars.
I enjoyed the premise that the perfect family that we are all trying to keep up with is not even a real family. They are a secret team of sales people that were put here to get you to BUY, BUY, BUY.
Many of us are familiar with that one family that always seems to have all the latest and greatest toys and gadgets. Their personal testimonials on why we should get one affects our buying decisions more than any other type of advertising.
When examining it from this perspective, it makes the movie plot fun and entertaining because we all have participated in this consumer exercise, whether we know it or not and whether we like it or not.
I have often been accused of being that "bad influence" because of my love for technology. I love to explain to my friends and family why every family should have a GPS or the latest digital handheld device. I only wished that I was compensated the way Steve Jones is in this movie.
Overall, I still think that the first half of this movie is worth watching but be prepared to be disappointed in the end or better yet just don't watch the ending!
