What is message of the film? Morality against materialism? Love? Or just for laughs. It delivered none of them. It was too ambitious, with only the lead male character being the consumer satire, it was not believable.
The character never intended to cross to the dark side, but he had the skills to be evil, that why did he join the company, & then betrayed it? His character had to have at least one foot on the dark side to create the intensity & the suspense of drama.
On screen, his motivation was not very clear. The fake family thing was a good idea but that was it.
