Review of The Joneses (2010) by Demonic R — 15 Jun 2011
Great idea for a film, lacking in execution. Four people pose as a perfect family in an affluent neighbourhood, promoting their sponsors' material goods in order to earn a living. Eventually things turn sour when one of their neighbours tries too hard to "Keep up with the Joneses" with tragic consequences.
Interesting take on materialism, family and community, and a decent performance from Duchovny, but Demi Moore wasn't very convincing, possibly because she's had so much "work" done. The film spends too long showing how these people ply their trade, and not long enough on the dire repercussions for their neighbour, Larry, and his wife Summer, whose terrible situation had only just begun as the film ended.
