Review of The Jewel of the Nile (1985) by Garrett S — 17 Sep 2012
This movie is a perfect example of how you can make such an awesome movie and than almost ruin that awesome movie by making a shitty sequel to it. Yes The Jewel Of The Nile is a sequel to Romancing The Stone and I honestly couldn't stand this movie one bit.
There was basically one thing that saved this movie from being a total pile of shit and that was Michael Douglas, he was great in this movie and that was the only positive thing. I really hated this movie, I have no idea why they even made a sequel to Romancing The Stone because Romancing The Stone was a great movie and the story was already done they didn't have to continue it.
I know some people say Romancing The Stone kind of ripped off Indiana Jones, well they were wrong about that, but when it came to this movie they can definitely say it was ripping off Indiana Jones. This entire movie felt like The Temple Of Doom, all the situations they go through, the way Joan acts throughout the film and the way the action scenes are, it all just reminds me of The Temple Of Doom.
You see at least in the first one, it made it's own ideas up, but in this one it just steals everything from Indiana Jones. The Jewel Of The Nile is stupid, cheesy, poorly written and a complete rip off of The Temple Of Doom.
Don't watch this movie at all just watch the first one and enjoy yourself.
